- A motorized food truck has an engine to power the transmission/wheels in which food is prepared and served.
- A food trailer is pulled by another source of power, and if they contain an engine, or generator, in which food is prepared and served.
- A mobile food cart is a rubber-wheeled mobile pieces of equipment or vehicle from which foods (primarily hot dogs) are prepared, proportioned and individually pre-wrapped at a restaurant or commissary.
Food trucks are inspected by the Guilford County Department of Public Health.
