I want to comment on the aspect of government overreach with regard to the food truck issue. Certainly the powers that be in Greensboro’s city administration have a right, and indeed a responsibility, to ensure that all establishments serving food comply with the law regarding food preparation, sanitation and parking regulations.
What they don’t have a right to do is pick which food vendors fail and which survive based on some concept of what is “fair” or not.
In a free economy, the marketplace (customers) makes that decision by choosing what they want to eat, and where they want to buy it.
No one wants to see a business go under. But in our free-market system, that will sometimes happen when a business’ competition meets customers’ needs better than it does.
